Quite Some Time

[Listening to: Signum V4 - LOST - The Lost Generation ()]

It's been a long time since this blog has benefitted from some additions.

It's been a hectic time. The office was moved while I was away, and while the new office is fantastic, there were a number of serious hiccups to the move.

Firstly the server move was messed up beyond all recognition. The phone and internet lines weren't connected, and no provisions had been made for storing or redirecting mail while the server was off the web (all of 3 weeks). Something that a couple of phone calls could have sorted out. The IT people were changed during this time to save a few bucks which didn't help any either. The few bucks saved per hour were quickly offset by the additional hours required to get people to work out what was going on.

The cabling in the new building is a maze of wires reminiscent of an explosion in a spaghetti factory.

Jodie has moved down to Perth, which I am so excited about. It's not been an easy move for either of us, with lots of pressure and expectations, but we are working through things. We are both very happy, but we still have some way to go until we are both comfortable with our place in the world. Most of this is bought about by our unusual living arrangements whereby we share a bedroom in a house occupied by a housemate and 4 cats. The housemate likes order in his own fashion, and the cats, well... don't. Each of us has got a slightly different idea of how the house should be kept.

We've crossed a few of those universal mysteries, such as "should the toaster remain on the benchtop when not in use" and "should the coffee machine remain on the bench when not in use" and "where is my phone charger?" The types of questions that don't seem to have an answer, and differing opinions over which I'm certain that wars have broken out.

I'm quite keen to make a new start with Jodie somewhere else. A new house somewhere that we can truly make ours, but the domestic situation with my housemate is somewhat tricky. We are in a house in which the yards have not been finished, and as such not really in a rentable state. Neither of us can afford to leave the house if it isn't rented, so we need to get the work finished. Unfortunately money is a little tight, and while we are getting a wall finished this next week, there is still a lot of paving and gardening that is required.

This really needs to be pretty much finished before I can truly move in with my beloved, and both Jodie and myself are feeling a little bit of stress about it.

In much better news, Jodie and I both got our open water dive tickets in Exmouth a week or so back. It was a surprisingly challenging course, even for someone with 20 years of skin diving experience. Jodie, a novice of only 2 dives was extremely brave to do the scuba diving thing after a life pretty much devoid of open water. I'm so proud of her, because even though she was quite scared of some of the exercises, she kept at them, and got her certification.

My Jupiter 8 and K2600 have been repaired and are working nicely again. I'm back into writing music again, and have nearly finished the second song on my new album. I've just got to tweak the levels of the bass sound a bit, and it's done. I've got some new toys on the way for the studio and am in the process of rewiring everything through a balanced patchbay. I'll need to get a bit of new gear to get everything talking nicely, but the results are definately worth it.

Anyway, I've got a bunch of work to do, so I'm going to leave this here for now. I'll try to get back in a post again soon.
