Dark Thoughts

Well, that last post was supposed to go out last month some time, and I just upgraded my account to the new Blogger system, and that kinda screwed up w.bloggar a bit. It's all good now (for anyone who wants to know how, check out http://samishra.wordpress.com/2006/11/08/getting-wbloggar-to-work-with-blogger-beta/ where I found the solution - the server is beta.blogger.com and the user name is your gmail address - all else is the same.)

Anyway, this entry is about music and the legend Lord Bass, who played LD 120's new track Archipelago (he even got the pronounciation correct), on his podcast and radio show Trance Lab. It certainly bought a smile to my face. Archipelago is the track mentioned in the previous post, and is now finished. Jamie and I have started on a new track now.

Also music related, my new toy arrived the other day - a Roland TR-909. Yep, I now have THAT kick drum in the studio, and man am I happy about it. Samples really don't do that kick drum justice. I've got a few modifications to do to it (like removing the 9V battery, which hopefully hasn't fried the SRAM chip, and replacing it with a 3V battery supply, adding some new controls and modifying the existing ones and finally doing the 240V conversion (which seems to be as simple as moving a single jumper and getting a new cable.

I don't think I'll be able to find an Australian cable to fit the existing receptacle, so I'll likely change over to an IEC connector and earth the chassis (like all good electrical equipment should be). Anyway, it works as it is, and I'm getting my head around the sequencer at the moment. I'll likely use it to also sequence my DMPro using the 909's external instrument function, so it's actually an astoundingly good match for my studio.

In other news, the wedding preparations are going pretty smoothly. Jode's is a bloody legend for working so hard at it. I try to tell myself that I'm contributing by paying for it all, but even so, my efforts pale in comparisons to the amount of time that she has ploughed into it. It's certainly going to be a day to remember (as it bloody well should be).

Work is pretty darn busy. I've got a procedure that is seemingly taking forever to complete. I was hoping to get it finished today, but I found a couple of niggly little things that I need to fix, and a few revisions that need to be done on an earlier, related procedure as a result.

Anyway, it's nearly the end of the day, and there's a cold beer with my name on it.
